Setting out from the port of Rawson, just 6 kilometers away from the center of the city, visitors get ready for the adventure of bordering the Atlantic coast in search for Commerson's dolphin.
This dolphin is a cetacean that dwells in the waters of the southern hemisphere. It has a maximum length of 1.5 meters and weighs 40 kilos, though some females may reach 50 kilograms. Their diet is based on some small fish, silverside, shrimp and squid, to name a few species. Its tail, head and all its fins are black. The rest of their body is white.
It may be observed from Tierra del Fuego to San Matías Gulf and one of the first men to study this species was expert Francisco P. Moreno.
In 2001, Commerson's dolphin was declared Provincial Natural Monument by the government of the Province of Santa Cruz. Therefore, its capture is now forbidden.
