Lake and Dam of the Fort

Lake Del Fuerte and all its landscape and recreational surroundings constitute a traditional walk in Tandil, where the locals and visitors come together.

It is almost a tradition to shop around Del Fuerte, a walk in Tandil that the locals themselves recommend and enjoy for the beauty of the surroundings and the many spaces designed to entertain the whole family. It is located at the foot of Parque Independencia, a natural viewpoint of the city for its privileged location.

Sports clubs, walks and monuments
In 1962, the Tandil dike was inaugurated in response to flood risks by the torrents of mountain waters due to rainfall. Although for many it is a Sunday walk, the dike is a very important hydraulic work that counteracts the surpluses of the Langueyú stream, which runs through the urban center, and its tributaries Blanco and Del Fuerte.

The city of Tandil sits on the stream basin. And recreational and landscape features are added to the ecological and geological function of the watercourse. To the south of the city, the Del Fuerte dam is a water regulation work before entering the city, with an area of approximately 19 ha, which dissipates that surface energy, prevents flooding and is used as a recreational place and sports.

The surroundings of artificial lake invite various activities, such as the aerobic circuit for hiking, biking or jogging. On the lake you can also practice kayaking, sailing, rowing and sport fishing. From the center of the lake an artificial surge, the geyser, as it is known, oxygenates the water contained in the dike and gives movement to an excellent landscape.

The lake and the Del Fuerte dike have numerous spaces and complexes around that make up other independent walks, such as the Balneario del Sol, a sector of pools and terraces to enjoy the summer, and the Fuerte Nautical Center, with courts sports and places to rent water bikes, kayaks and rowing boats.

The Municipal Sports Center integrates the same unit with Lake Del Fuerte. Other attractions are the Don Quijote and Sancho Panza monument; the Parque de la Industria with the monument to the pioneer Juan Fugl, teacher and farmer, promoter of sowing, milling and baking of wheat; the spring of Gardey; the Paseo Mapuche; the Dreamed of Children Park, with children´s games, and the Handicraft Market, where you can buy craftsmen´s works.
The roundabout south of the park communicates with other walks in Tandil, such as La Cascada hill, El Centinela hill and the Sierra del Tigre Nature Reserve.
