Finca Rosel, like at grandparents´ house

At Finca Rosel, Don Elvio and Doña Rosalba warmly welcome visitors who want to feel part of the life of the settlers. A tie with traditions.

Work and roots come hand in hand in this family project, Finca Rosel in the heart of Tronco Pozo, a town in Colonia Caroya. The Gasparutti-Venturini continue the legacy of their ancestors in a six-hectare farm, where they work with original productive methods, those that were established by Italian immigrants and who changed the landscape of the mountains through the vineyards, orchards and farms.

With your hands on the ground
The Friulian immigration has its bases in Colonia Caroya, when the first settlers began arriving in 1878. Cultural traditions moved to the Cordoba lands, and the Italians gave a strong boost to regional products such as wine, cheeses and salami.

In Finca Rosel, the tour takes you through fruit orchards, orchards, farms, animal pens and vineyards. Elements and tools are kept in the house of the Venturini as a testimony of the beginnings of an artisanal work. Nowadays Don Elvio continues to process his wine by hand, which gives him that authentic and powerful flavor that comes from history, traditions and family roots. Doña Rosalba is the engine of this venture that was born in 2008. She can surprise tourists with rich Italian dishes or invite them to share the preparation of sweets or homemade bread.

The vineyard is almost one hundred years old and artisanal wine is Don Elvio´s specialty. The terroirs of Finca Rosel produce, among other diversities, pinot grapes and raspberry grapes (also known as bed bug or Isabella grapes), which stand out in homemade wines, made in the old-fashioned way, such as the patero wine of the great-grandparents who arrived from Italy looking for new horizons.

The rural inn also provides accommodation to share the daily tasks of the place. Feeling the hands on the ground, harvesting the vegetables themselves, collecting fresh eggs, feeding the animals, collaborating with the harvest of grapes or making patero wine are ideal activities to feel in communion with the environment and with the field activities, «as one more settler »the hosts say. Many visitors are moved by the task that may be far from their own way of life or, perhaps, very intimate because they remember their grandparents´ house. In all cases, there is no doubt of the rich and strengthening experience, of the link with the entrenched traditions of a family that opens its doors for those who want to visit them.
