Oberá, green and red from all points of view, features a wide range of attractions to see in the very heart of the city. One of them is the Birds’ Garden, where over 200 specimens of birds, distributed into 70 species, are contained in a venue of lush nature to be admired from a very close distance.
The Birds’ Garden is the result of a dream come true. Ever since she was a child, Frida Wendlinger, founder of the venue, was in charge of breeding, healing and feeding native birds in her back yard as a hobby. As time went by, her work became public and also a great responsibility. Thus, Frida’s garden became an unquestionable icon in
Oberá when it came to watching local birds. The great deal of birds that reproduced themselves there forced Frida to donate the feathered creatures she had taken so much care of. The municipality, under Frida’s supervision, was in charge of sheltering them inside a venue. At present, the Birds’ Garden lies in an easily accessed site, teeming with the shiny vegetation typical of Oberá and with large cages where the birds live their life in peace.
Giant toucans, peacocks, saffron finches, pheasants, southern caracaras, Formosan blue magpies, parakeets, guacamayos, moorhens and cardinals are some of the most outstanding local birds. While touring around the venue, the sharp singing of the birds defeats the silence. Bright colors inside the sad bars seem to guess the arrival of visitors and everything is translated into fascination. We certainly recommend a visit.
