There is a strong presence of low hills that give shape to a landscape similar to the forests of northern Patagonia in the central area of the Province of Tierra del Fuego.
Tolhuin is a popular district as it provides interesting alternatives both in the downtown and in the outskirts. In all cases, nature prevails and as a result of the bigger affluence of visitors, the local settlers have established new attractions to make the most of the local offer.
Lake Fagnano rules over the region and is surrounded by extensive forests, rivers and creeks that contribute their waters and provide food for the rainbow trout dwelling in it. That is the reason why angling has many followers, and so does navigation on this water body and hiking around the forest trails. Rural tourism rests on the so-called Camino de las Estancias (Estancia Road), which provides accommodation options or fishing outings, as well as the chance to see rodeo and sheep-shearing tasks.
Just a hundred kilometers separate Tolhuin from the nearby cities of Río Grande and Ushuaia, the southernmost in the country.
Getting away from picturesque Tolhuin towards Ushuaia, visitors get to Lake Escondido through the fascinating Garibaldi Pass, which crosses the mountain range.
Lake Fagnano stands out for being the largest water body on Tierra del Fuego Island. It spreads out from the mountain range to the steppe.
Not only is this Tolhuin’s bakery, but it is also a meeting point par excellence, where in addition to the delicious pastries, visitors may share the memories of both celebrities and strangers
Tolhuin means ‘heart-shaped’ in Selk’nam, the perfect word to describe this town on the shore of Lake Fagnano between the mountain range and the plateau.
