History is simple: in January 1986, right before the Football World Cup, the then coach of the national team, Carlos Salvador Bilardo, searched for a "quiet" and "distant" place to train his boys.
The destination was the City of Tilcara, in Jujuy, where part of what was to become the national team began to train during ten days using the very local denizens as sparring partners.
By then, nobody trusted Bilardo or the players. Neither journalists nor most Argentinian people who had seen them qualify to play the World Cup with a last-minute goal during the painful preliminary phase.
The local dwellers made acquaintances with the players and started to share their customs, anecdotes and beliefs. Among the latter, were the miracles granted by the Virgin, who always responded to their wishes and favors.
And thus, the players asked for a wish themselves: if they won the World Cup -which they did-, they would come back to thank this small but powerful Virgin.
But the World Champions never returned to Tilcara and the promise was unfulfilled.
The denizens of Tilcara are still waiting for the presence of the coach and those players. They do not wish to claim anything but to remember the old days. They want to see if one day we can hold such a precious trophy at the World Cup again.
Please, come back!
