Rincón del Socorro Ranch

Rincón del Socorro, nestled in the Iberá National Park, is a destination of natural wonder where beauty and biodiversity intertwine in a mosaic of ecosystems. Visitors can travel through diverse landscapes ranging from vast, temporarily flooded grasslands to beautiful caranday palm groves. The estancia is planned as a destination for experiences in the Esteros del Iberá.

Wildlife refuge

With the mission of creating a natural park, philanthropist Douglas Tompkins acquired the Rincón del Socorro ranch and other land in Iberá. The site soon became the epicenter of the transformation of the Iberá marshlands. Tompkins and his team embarked on the task of restoring and expanding the buildings of the historic 1896 homestead. Then the cattle that had grazed these fields for generations were removed, and hundreds of miles of wire fencing were dismantled to return the land to its natural state.

But most exciting was the process of reintroducing locally extinct wildlife. This historic effort not only restored species populations, but also revived hope in biodiversity conservation. Rincón del Socorro is home to an established population of anteaters. It is also home to the first pampas deer and collared peccaries in Argentina, an amazing achievement that highlights the dedication to wildlife conservation. Capybaras, marsh deer, corzuelas, caraya monkeys, foxes, viscachas and rheas swarm these landscapes and add even more richness to the visitor's experience.

A transcendental milestone in this conservation odyssey that began in 2001 was the donation of these lands for the creation of the Iberá National Park in the province of Corrientes. This park became a wildlife refuge and a beacon of hope for conservation in the country.

The buildings are a manifestation of classic European elegance, with their wide verandas providing shade and coolness on the region's hot days. The hotel offers 11 rooms, where full board service and a variety of activities are included. The gastronomy is a celebration of regional flavors with organic vegetables harvested in the hotel's own garden.

From the constant presence of wildlife to the opportunity to explore diverse ecosystems by kayak, horsebackbicycle, this corner of Iberá National Park awakens all the senses. It also offers a glimpse into the rich local culture and conservation history. Rincón del Socorro is also the heart of the Iberá Project, where you can learn about the history of species reintroduction through videos and talks with biologists and technicians from Fundación Rewilding Argentina.

Iberá National Park is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion for nature, a reminder that we can reverse the damage caused by human activity and restore the natural beauty of our world.
