Beach and Bar at Mar de las Pampas

It sees the sunset everyday. It gets crowded and crazy everyday at noon and, in the afternoon, it welcomes the first stars that make the place the ideal one to wait for the moon in the candlelight. Soleado is a very special place.

Today, Mar de las Pampas is one of those places where man has wisely managed to get close to nature, by mingling the wood with the sea breeze of the sand hills and the ocean.

Everyday, dozens of people approach Soleado, the only beach bar at Mar de las Pampas located on Virazón Street and the beach, to wake up by the sea.

In general, visitors are in their fifties, but there are also teenagers. The ritual consists in watching the vastness of the beach and the quietness of the sea a few minutes before the sun rises.

Only a small group of anglers who got up very early may be seen. If they are lucky, some corvina rubia or brótola will turn into the main dish for lunch.

When the clock strikes 9, some people have approached the water, others have already dived in and others have even started the ritual of mate and bizcochitos de grasa to wake up by the sea while most people are still sleeping.

At these hours, Soleado is already preparing breakfast with fruit, coffee and milk and milk shakes and watching how its tables, tents and umbrellas slowly begin to announce that a new day in the season has begun.

Madness at Midday

The coming of midday has completely changed the place. Complete families in the water, on the sand or in the tents spend their time practicing some beach sport in fashion during the season or having fun with the most traditional activities. Children make their first castles of sand in the day or ask for the first barquillo.

At this time, everyone has tested the freshness of the water and the heat of the sand . Their appetite opens up to the smells and tastes that invade the environment. Fruit salad, French fries, milanesas, hamburguers, milk shakes, yoghurt, sandwiches and soft drinks parade from one tent to another.

The daiquiris are the favorite drink. Caipirinhas, Cuba libre and some other drinks are ideal to start thinking about the meal of the day. And there are also the shakes made with milk or water which cool everything down when it is almost 2 o’clock in the afternoon and the weather is getting hotter and hotter.

When the Afternoon Comes

At about 6 or 7 pm, the sand gets cold much more quickly than the sea water, which maintains the heat from the day. Taking a bath at that time is crazy.

That is the right moment for mate, some drinks or a hamburger for the young. It is valid to light a fire too.

This is the moment when the youths invade the beach and the families begin to leave slowly. The young people begin to make plans for the evening. And so does Soleado.

In the Moonlight

When the sun sets, the place begins to change. It gets the right level of cozyness to have dinner by the unmistakable roar of the sea and its waves, in the moonlight and in the candlelight.

It is a different place now. The dishes attempt to show the sensations of this venue. In addition to the Patagonian cuisine, the wise influence of the Mediterranean dishes is also observed.

Black shrimp and prawn crêpes, Patagonian trout stuffed with dry fruit and prawn in caprese sauce are some of the dishes. But the star of the night is “open ravioli stuffed with chicken breast in dark balsamic vinegar sauce”. Desserts are also at the height of the circumstances.

And Afterwards …

Everything comes back to normal. Various music shows are presented every night. Some guitar strings and voices imitating Sabina and Serrat sound as the first hours of the day begin to paint the sky with the first sunbeams on the horizon. It is the anglers and the first swimmers who approach the beach once more. A perfect circle amazes us again.
