A Vantage Point in the Wind

Our host, the wind, would not prevent us from enjoying a unique site denizens of Villa Traful are proud to show among the many attractions of this mountainous area.

Vantage points offer an exceptional point of view at any tourist destination. Not only does Mirador del Viento (Wind’s Viewpoint) display a panoramic image of Lake Traful, but it also hides other surprises.

The mountainous area nearby stands out for the very strange figures carved in the rocks by the strong winds prevailing in the region. Watching the contour of the mountains, we could imagine the face of an Indian, the silhouette of a vessel or a monk praying.

That is how this game began. Every time we faced a rock tip or a group of rocks, we tried to discover an image letting our imagination fly.

The Winds’ Viewpoint is a strange rock formation that may be spotted from a distance. It is a wall reaching almost 100 meters of height hit by the wind coming from the West, which produces an exceptional effect.

As we arrived, we were welcomed by some strong gusts which we had to fight in order to go up the stairs that led us to the “crest” of the rock. Two large wooden balconies with rails let us make direct contact with the forces of nature.

From the cliff, we had an impressive view of Lake Traful, even though we could not appreciate its entire size. We were amazed at the height and at a certain kind of energy transmitted in that location. We beheld the lights glowing on the crystal clear waters below.

A Time to Play

The piercing sound of the wind filled the silence we had enjoyed in the woodlands. Words were unnecessary and all of us, even grown-ups, began to play a different game: the boomerang effect exercised by the wind when it brought the objects we threw out into the void back to us.

The prize for our entertainment was instantaneous. Even if not everything came back, most of what we sent out into the air returned to our hands. This was not magic or any kind of trick. The strong power of the wind blowing against the rock of the vantage point brought the objects back to their starting point.

We gave in our face and hair to the wind as part of the entertainment. We remained there for a moment playing like children and letting the local magnetism be portrayed in some picture or in our own minds.
